From the beginning, he was professional, clear, and very knowledgeable about the process. Steve really stood out in straightforwardness and honest expectations. Most importantly, the result was excellent: my I-485 was approved very quickly, in about three and a half months from filing. SMA Law Firm helped me get my green card during COVID-19. As grad students, my partner and I knew nothing about the immigration process—all we knew was that we wanted to stay together and that we were in the midst of a pandemic. We had no idea what we were supposed to do, not to mention how we were going to do it when everything was on pause. When we met with Steve at SMA, he and his team guided us through each of the steps, sent us all the documents we needed to fill out, kindly answered all of our questions, and explained the terminology to us in ways we could understand. The process was stressful, but Steve and his team not only made it easier, they also made the journey less lonely. My partner and I still remember the times we would email them in the middle of the night, nervous and afraid, and their immediate responses would put our minds at ease. Despite the many complications due to the pandemic and the countless times USCIS rescheduled our appointments, I was approved for a green card in about a year. In fact, we were approved the day of our green card interview! We were looking for the reassurance of having someone steer us through the I-130 Process, my wife petitioning for me to be granted my Green Card. It's an important step in the life of our family and highly stressful, Steve & his team did a great job of helping us smooth out the whole process by ensuring we had all the necessary documents, and helped us complete our paperwork working with us remotely. Steve was able to help me navigate an unique and tricky situation that was holding me back from getting work authorization as a Canadian in the US. Through my marriage, there was a particular obstacle we had to get over, and it was so daunting that my husband and I were even chatting about getting divorced to solve it. After speaking with 3 other lawyers before finding Steve, Steve was the only one who knew of a legal solution. He implemented it and succeeded! I can recommend Steve and SMA Law Firm in the strongest possible terms if you need an immigration attorney. I am an attorney myself, practicing for 22 years, but I don’t practice immigration law and knew that when my partner/girlfriend J. needed assistance with an immigration issue not to handle it myself, but to enlist someone who knows what they’re doing – and that’s Steve, who was recommended to me by another attorney I know. Our case was a petition to remove conditions on residence – meaning that J. had a two-year temporary green card and was seeking full Permanent Resident status.  The grounds were extreme hardship, which is not an easy basis on which to obtain Permanent Resident Status.  If we were not successful, it would have meant ultimate deportation for J., and separation of our young and growing family. Thanks to Steve’s knowledge and skill, and that of his talented and dedicated staff, we were indeed successful, and we are forever grateful to Steve. I can also say that Steve’s rates are very reasonable, and he and his staff are understanding, kind and empathetic to the human aspects of immigration cases.
